For just $5 a person you get three hours to play our library of 500+ tabletop games.
BrainHackr is a casual game space, you don’t need to be an avid gamer or even have any idea about board games to come in and have some fun. Our team will help you find games suited to you and can even get you set up and started with quick tutorials.
You can sit and play while enjoying something from our menu along with barista-made coffee or something stronger from the bar.
You can quickly and easily book a Stay’n’Play session using our online booking system. You don’t even need to pay ahead when booking for less than 6 people.
While we love to see younger gamers getting into board games we do require all minors to be accompanied by a parent/guardian during our usual hours, minors are not permitted in the cafe after 7pm.
While we do have board games we are predominately an adult venue where alcohol is served and games with adult themes are freely played. Persons under the age of 18 are not permitted in the bar/cafe area during our adults only time (from 7pm), during other times minors must be accompanied by their parent or guardian at all times.
It is important to note that BrainHackr openly promotes the consumption of alcohol and utilises board games as a method to do so, strict adult supervision is required for any minors. We do have a ‘family friendly’ day once per month on a Saturday where the bar is closed and families can play in a more comfortable atmosphere, check out our Facebook page for details on the next family day.
We also do not permit children under 3 into the cafe for health and safety reasons (those meeples can sure be tasty!).
Do you do children’s parties?
We do have limited childrens party options available! To check out the details click here
To ensure your group has a great time, and to make sure there is no disruption to our other customers childrens parties are required to exclusively hire the entire cafe. We will include some organised games, snacks, and take home bags so you don’t need to do any work. The only thing we don’t do is supervise, so you’ll need to make sure you have enough adults in attendance.
Do you have a liquor license?
We certainly do, whats better than games, friends and a few drinks! As we are a licenced venue all persons under 18 must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. We are also required to state (in a robot voice) A person under 18 who obtains or consumes liquor on our premises, and the person who supplies liquor to the person under 18, are each guilty of an offence under the Liquor Licencing Act 1997 (Beep Boop).
We have a full cafe menu with light meals, sides and snacks suitable for lunch or dinner. We have soft drinks, water, coffee, hot chocolate, milkshakes and alcoholic drinks available.
Can I bring my own food and drink?
We do not permit outside food or drinks to be brought in, there are a few reasons for this including health department and insurance requirements!
Do you cater to vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free diets?
We have plenty of options on our menu, including vegetarian, vegan and gluten free items.
Can you accommodate groups larger than 6?
We can accommodate groups of various sizes across multiple tables. The maximum number of persons able to fit on one table is 6. Group bookings require payment upfront and larger groups are required to purchase catering packages to secure additional tables. Check out our group booking options here
Do you hire out the space for private events?
It is possible to exclusively hire the gaming area for corporate events, game group meet ups, etc. Availability is limited and only available with catering packages. You can select ‘exclusive use of the cafe’ in our group booking tool here
Awwwwwwww no. Soz. The BrainHackr team have our own furry friends that we would love to bring in to work, but to keep our 5 star health rating we can’t allow animals to be brought on site. Except of course for service animals, we will always make arrangements to accommodate guide, hearing and assistance dogs.
What happens if I damage a game?
Uh ohs! Please take care of the games. Any group found to cause negligent damage to our games will be required to purchase the game at the current retail price.
What payment methods do you accept?
Pretty much all of them (except Amex and Diners – bank no likey).
Do you have disability access?
Unfortunately, as we are located in an older building we do not have street level access, customers will be required to ascend one step to enter the store (approximately 20cm in height), use of our single unisex bathroom facility will require the use of a short 12 step staircase. We know this isn’t ideal for persons who may not be able to access the store, please click here to read our full disability statement which may provide other options available to you.
What happens if I can’t make it?
You may cancel your Stay N’ Play table booking up to 4 hours before your scheduled session, or up to 24 hours for group bookings using the link emailed in your original confirmation. Refunds are not provided for bookings with less than the required notice.
Refunds for escape room bookings are not provided. Please contact us as soon as possible to discuss potential rescheduling.
Can I pay when I get there?
To secure larger bookings ahead of time payment is required online at the time of booking. Payment can only be made in store for walk in bookings. We recommend booking ahead on Friday and Saturday nights.
Can I change my booking?
The best way to change a booking is to either use the link in the email to cancel and make a new booking, or just give us a call and we can edit the booking for you.
Where can I park?
There is plenty of free parking around us. We are located on Prospect Road right at the traffic lights. We recommend parking on the quieter streets of Alexandra or Gordon. Please be mindful and respectful of our neighbours when coming and going.
Which bus should I get?
From the city (Victoria Square) you can catch the G10 heading to Prospect, get off the bus at Stop 14 on Prospect Road.
I want to bring in a group but don’t have enough players
Our group booking packages allow ‘up to’ a set number of players. For example if you have 15 players then you should select the GroupBooking 16 option. You’ll be paying for one extra player, but you’re already saving the cost of 2x individual stay n’ play tickets by booking as a group.
I want to book 20 players but don’t want food
In order to cover our operating costs, we only offer large group bookings with food and drink packages included. If you would like to discuss the options don’t hesitate to contact us.
Can I get a refund if people don’t show up?
Unfortunately no, by booking spaces in advance you prevent other people from booking. In order to cover our costs we can not offer refunds, or transfer food or drink vouchers for players who do not show up.
Can people pay individually when part of a group booking?
For group bookings the group organiser is required to pay for the entire session at the time of booking. The organiser must then collect funds from players. Our team are happy to check off your guest list as they arrive.
